Why is aircon installation expensive?

Several factors push the cost of aircon installation up. First, Australian law requires two separate licences to complete the work: an ARCtick licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council for refrigerant handling, and a state electrical licence for all fixed wiring.

This means you are paying for highly trained, regulated tradespeople, which is reflected in hourly rates. Second, the materials required, including refrigerant lines, insulation, mounting brackets, isolation switches, and dedicated electrical circuits, all add to the overall bill.

Third, job complexity plays a big role. Double brick walls, long pipe runs, multi-storey access, and switchboard upgrades all take more time and skill. The quality of the installation also has a direct impact on how the system performs and how long it lasts, so cutting corners costs more in the long run.
